Interview with a Dog Owner

Home >> Interview with a Dog Owner

Posted by Gina Cariño
Amanda is an early-retired New York City lawyer and the owner of a big black beauty.

What’s happening in the picture?

I’m about to get married. I’m with my flower girl.

Tell us about your Great Dane.

Luna came when she was 8 weeks old. She weighed 12 pounds. Now she’s 6 years old and weighs 130 pounds.

Describe a day in the life of Luna.

After a morning walk, she sleeps all day.

Where does she walk?

In Prospect Park, Brooklyn’s Central Park. There, dogs can go off leash from 9pm to 9am. So if you’re there at 8am, your dog can run around freely for an hour.

Has she got friends in the park?

Yes, and her best friend is a white bulldog named Oates.

Do you make friends in the park?

Yes, and Luna introduced us to our closest friends in Brooklyn, the owners of her best friend Oates.

Has motherhood affected your dogkeeping?

It’s now harder for me to go out so early, so Luna is usually picked up at 7:30 by a service that takes her to the park with other dogs. I’d love to work as a dogwalker. Dogwalkers make $20 per hour per dog.

Are dogs allowed on the subway?

Only if they fit into a bag.
